Our beloved mother, VaLoy Shumway Porter Harmon, 74, passed away peacefully at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center following heart surgery on June 9, 2005. Her daughter Eileen, followed just two days later.
VaLoy was born July 25, 1930 in Fairview to Leon and Gladys Shumway. she married Melvin J. Porter on June 24, 1947 in the Logan LDS Temple.
VaLoy and Melvin raised their family in Grover. They later spent winters in st George. they had 53 years together until Melvin passed away April 4, 2000 in Orem Utah.
VaLoy was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. she served a mission with Melvin to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She also had callings in the Relief Society and Primary.
VaLoy is survived by her husband, Gaylen; children Layne(Jean) Porter; Mel (LuAnn) Porter; Mekell (Lesa) Porter; Deanne (Kerry) Casperson; Lori (Matt) Wach; and errol (Jennifer) Porter; 41 granddchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She is also survived by Gaylen"s children, Beverly Hatton; Mike (Dee Dee) Harmon; Dan (Robin) Harmon; Jon (Tonia) Harmon; Gaylynn (Mike) Buys; Jane (Mitch) Clarkson; Jim (Tanya) Harmon; Valerie (Tory) Gundersen; and Lisa (Brent) Harris; 39 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Neva (Dean) Lancaster; Roma (Clyde) Olson; and Ledene (John) Stumpp.
Valoy was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Porter; her parents and one brother, Ross Shumway.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at the Meadows Ward LDS Church. Internment followed at the Smoot Cemetery.
