He emigrated to the United States aboard the SS Gaston in 1856.

Landed in Galveston and then traveled to Guadalupe County, Texas.

John Heinrich Magel Sr (Henry), married Marie Henkle in 1843 in Odenhausen Parish Londorf Germany. The family came from the City of Darmstadt, State of Hesse, Germany and immigrated to the US in 1857 on a ship called the "Gaston" out of Breman Germany. Henry and his wife brought Elizabeth Ann, Maria Theresa, Katherine, Anthony (Anton Henry), Louisa J., with them from Germany. Henry bought a 146 acre farm off Nash Creek Road, and settled here. Henry became a US citizen on June 22 1866. Henry and Marie had at least 2 children in Texas, Mary and Annie. Elizabeth married "Dutch" Henry Ranft who immigrated with them, Catherine (Kate) married James Kiser (Kyser?), Mary married a Mike Klein, Louisa (Louise) married Christian Wille, Annie married a Mr. Estep. I have pieced this together from a few sources, please contact me if the names are off.
