This is a place holder for my Aunt, Kathryn Mitchell Harjo, also referred to as Catherine Harjo. A funeral service was held and her earthly remains were interred at the Okfuskee Baptist Church Cemetary, located south of Eufaula, Oklahoma. I have been unable to locate an obituary or any significant details. Her husband Barney Harjo, Sr, was also buried there. I am uncertain of both her birth date and the date of her passing. I know that she graduated from Chilocco Indian School three years before my father, and as such my approximation for her birth year was at least three years prior to my father's birth year. I have since found a 1940 census that indicates she was 3 when the census was taken. I know that she passed after my Aunt Rosey and before my Aunt Hattie Beaver and so have provided a preliminary estimate for the year of her passing. I hope that some descendant or relative will read this and correct it.

As I am able to document more information, I will provide it. This Find A Grave page management will be transferred to any of her children or grandchildren that desire to assume responsibility for it.

I feel that all of my father's family deserves to be remembered and honored.

Kathryn Mitchell was born to Soloman Mitchell and Susie Perry on or about 1938. As a younger sibling was known to have an unattended birth at Susie Perry's rural residence, it is strongly suspected that Kathryn's birth circumstances were similar.

Kathryn was sent to Chilocco Indian School.

Kathryn Mitchell graduated from Chilocco Indian School in 1956. In her senior yearbook it is noted that she was Creek and Chickasaw and that her hometown was Eufaula. During high school she studied Pre-nursing, home economics, participated in Band & Dance Band. She was a member of the Silver Key club; and served as Vice president of the 4-H club.
