Plot
The U.S. Navy Plot, which was dedicated on December 11, 1898, contains as its centerpiece a bronze sailor in a Spanish-American War uniform. The monument, paid for by citizens of Key West in memory of sailors killed in Havana, was unveiled on March 15, 1900.

Seaman Gunner, killed with the explosion of U.S.S. Maine in Havana Harbor. His body was discovered two weeks after the explosion.
His brother Harry received the news of the death and joined and served through the duration of the war.
Through the efforts of Berks County congressman John H Rothermel, one the ship's anchors was shipped to Reading, Pa., home of Frank Anders. It has been prominently displayed in the City Park and for many years there was a gala tribute at its site on or near February 15. At each celebration Frank's niece Martha would place a flag.
