He is survived by one son, Richard L. Allen and his wife Kristina of Charleston; five grandchildren, Rikki Jo Johnson and her husband Jeff of Belknap, Illinois, Carl L. Allen of Globe, Arizona, Derek N. Arthur, Kyleigh Arthur and Jordan Allen, all of Charleston; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Biggs of Lerna, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Ruby Allen of Cowden, Illinois, Mildren (sic) Allen of Neoga, Illinois and Ellen Allen of Higgins, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Carl was a United States Army Veteran proudly serving his country from 1954-1958. He was a 1983 graduate of Lake Land college in the field of Automotive Mechanics. Carl was employed as a trucker for various companies until his retirement in 1984.
Carl loved being in the midst of people and could be found just "hanging out" with his friends at Lefty's Holler or with Mark Ruyle, a neighbor and close friend. He liked eating fish more than he liked catching them, enjoyed mowing the lawn and resting underneath a big shade tree on a hot summer afternoon. Carl was always listening to the news and kept everyone informed of the weather via information gained from faithfully watching the Weather Channel. He was appreciative of his family and friends and loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially Jordan.
It is requested that Memorials in honor of Carl be made to his family to be used for final expenses. Gifts may be left on the Memorial Table at the Visitation or Services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.
