When Paula Annette Goodhew was born on May 12, 1937, in Piqua, Ohio, her father, Paul, was 19, and her mother, Helen, was 20. She grew up in Gettysburg, Ohio and earned a master's degree in English from Western Michigan University in 1972.
She had one son and one daughter with David Louis Berlien between 1956 and 1960. She married Paul Robert LaRocque and had lived in Texas for several years. Paula was preceded in death by her daughter Andrea Helen Berlien in 1985; sisters Roquetta Louise (Goodhew) Auton in 2020 and Morale Diane ( Goodhew) Bingham in 2022; and brother Paul Frederick Goodhew in 1974. Her son David Eric Berlien survives in Delton, Michigan.
