---Dave, age 78, died Friday morning, June 6, 2014 at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility, Battle Creek, following a brief illness and surrounded by his loving family.
---Dave, the son of Louis M. and Margaret T. (Venn) Berlien, was born on July 16, 1935 in Battle Creek; was a lifetime resident and a 1953 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. He served his country honorably and nobly in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 assigned to the Nike Missile Battalion. Dave was employed at Misner Brothers Market during high school; also at Kellogg's for a number of years; was Co-Owner of Stevens & Berlien Market in Verona and finally retired in 1994 from Union Pump of Battle Creek after 15 years of faithful service. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and played many rounds of golf with family and friends. Dave was a member of the Family Altar Chapel and a devoted board member. He was a tireless member at his beloved Church and praised God for using his skills to serve Him. Dave was also a faithful and devoted caretaker to his wonderful wife, Ruth. His kindness and generosity was shared by family and friends and he will be forever missed by all of us!
---Dave was united in marriage on December 17, 1977 in Lacey, MI, to the former Ruth E. Baker. Surviving is his loving wife of 36 years, Ruth; four sons, David E. (Karen) Berlien of Delton, MI, Jeffrey D. Clark of San Diego, CA, Thomas R. (Mary) Clark of Battle Creek and Scott D. (Wendy) Clark of Hastings, MI; ten grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Rachael, Elizabeth, Maxwell, Christy, Graham, Cassidy, Jeremy and Sadie; three great grandchildren, Isabelle, Ethan and David and his sister, Linda (Bill) Wellenkamp of Delton. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Andrea H. Berlien on February 1, 1985 and his sister, Janet Burns.
---The Memorial Service to celebrate Dave's life will be held on Wednesday, June 11th at 11:00 a.m. at the Family Altar Chapel, 14844 6 ½ Mile Road, Battle Creek, with the Rev. Travis L. Davis, Pastor, officiating. The United States Army Honor Guard will bestow military honors at the Church. Family and friends will continue to celebrate Dave's life with a time of fellowship and a luncheon in the Chapel's Social Hall immediately following the Memorial Service. Final interment will be next to his daughter, Andrea in Hicks Cemetery, Pennfield Township. Friends will be received on Tuesday, June 10th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dave's honor may be directed to the Family Altar Chapel.
