Mary Ann Pepper was the daughter of Charles Armstrong Pepper and Susannah Clark Hartley. She married Benjamin Coleman Taliaferro on 15 Mar 1852 in Oquawka, Henderson County, Illinois. They had four children: Cora Bell (1854-1906) who married John William Edwards and who are both buried in the Aledo Cemetery; Francis known as Frank who was born in 1856 and was the second husband of Cora Strong; Ralph (1858-1907) who married Jessie Sinnet and is buried by his mother; and Robert Brooke 1859-1936) who named after Benjamin's father and who married Lizzie Felix.
Her husband, Benjamin, died in 1887. The 1900 census records her living with son Ralph in Chicago. She was living in Houston at the time of her death in 1907. We know this from son Ralph's death story (he went to Houston to bring her body back to Aledo for burial and then, being overcome with grief and despondency, committed suicide).
The location of her grave as being #9 in lot 29 is still trying to be confirmed.
Adjoining the Taliaferro family plot in the cemetery, to the east, is Mary Ann's "Pepper" family plot.
