Vlade "Val" Vucelich, 97, formerly of Jeannette, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday at Mountain View Senior Living.
He was born on February 1, 1926, in Export, Pennsylvania, to the late Vlade Vucelich, Sr. and the late Mary Kukich Vucelich. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rose, his son Michael and all eight siblings.
Vlade served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Santee (CVE-29) during World War ll and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism. He was known for his strong work ethic, enjoyed cultivating his garden and fruit orchard & playing his accordion, was an avid storyteller and proud of his Serbian heritage.
He is survived by his children, Peter (Kelly) Vucelich, Roseann (David) Lane, Thomas Vucelich, Sr., Martha (Scott) Borges, Virginia (Daniel Cimpi) Craig, Robert Vucelich and Steven (Kim) Vucelich. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tamera, Thomas Jr., Kelsey, Benjamin, Joshua, and Mark and great grandchildren, Adalyn, Elliana, and Max.
Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Export, Pa.
