Bonnie L. Davis

Ankeny - Bonnie Lou (Bothwell) Davis, 88, passed to Heaven on July 10, 2021. A private service with immediate family will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. A celebration of life for friends and family will take place for her and her husband, Roger L. Davis, on Saturday, October 9, 2021 from 2pm – 6pm. The event will be held at Briarwood Club of Ankeny located at 3405 NE Trilein Drive in Ankeny.

Bonnie was born on September 19, 1932, in Wessington, SD. She was raised on the family farm by her parents who taught her to be a strong woman. She graduated from Egan High School. After the family had moved to Colman, SD, Bonnie started her working career as a switch board telephone operator for AT&T. During this time she met her husband, Roger, at a roller skating rink in Lake Campbell, SD.

She married Roger on September 1, 1956, and they enjoyed 64 years together. Shortly after they married, the couple moved to Alexandria, MN, where Bonnie began her most rewarding job as a mother to children Paul, Pam and Phil.

In 1964, the family moved to Ankeny, where Roger started Davis Equipment Corporation and Bonnie focused on raising the children. In the early years of the company Roger spent a lot of time away from home, and due to Bonnie's unrelenting support of her husband's dream, the business prospered. Today, the family business is still in operation and is led by one of Roger and Bonnie's grandsons.

Bonnie was a talented cook and baker, providing her family with great homemade meals. She always kept snacks in the cupboard for her children and the other kids around the neighborhood. She was a longtime member of Ankeny First United Methodist Church and Faith Chapel. Active in the community, Bonnie was President of the Ankeny Women's Club, the Welcome Wagon and was a member of the PTA. She spent time volunteering for Easter Seals, Meals on Wheels and various other organizations.

Bonnie's hobbies included boating, bowling, dancing, gardening and she especially enjoyed playing cards or going to the casino. She loved to travel on family vacations to Table Rock and Lake of the Ozarks. She also cherished visits back home to see her family in South Dakota. She was an excellent copilot for Roger whenever they travelled in their airplane. Later in life, there were several memorable bus trips and cruises with family and friends. Additionally, Bonnie loved to spoil and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bonnie will always be remembered by her beautiful smile that was often accompanied by her riveting laugh. Bonnie loved to host people at her house and she had a distinct style when it came to both her clothing and home décor. She was a perfectionist and her home was always organized and clean. People often joked that she left a hotel room or a cabin cleaner then when she had arrived. Her attention to detail, cleanliness and work ethic were all a direct reflection of how her mother Lillian raised Bonnie.

Bonnie is survived by her three children, Paul (Ann Marie) of Ankeny, Pam of Ankeny, and Dr. Philip (Kelly) of Chanhassen, MN; brothers, Wally (Bernice), and Richard (Charlotte); grandchildren, Zach (Sarah), Alex (Britne), Jensina, Colton, Nate, and Sabrina; and great-granddaughters, Halle, Vale, Emerson, Palmer and Leia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raleigh (Mike) and Lillian; husband, Roger; siblings, Betty, Elaine and Robert; and infant great-grandson, Leo.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, IA or to the Easter Seals of Iowa.
