Charles G. Owens died at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lydia Skidmore in Murdock, Ill. after an illness of 10 days. Infirmities and old age was the cause of his death. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Owens has lived in Decatur for 29 years and was well known here. Formerly he was in the teaming business here. Some time ago he went to Murdock to visit his daughters. He had been ailing but was not taken seriously ill until after his arrival in Murdock.
He was born in Green county, Ind. in 1832 and lived there until about 28 years ago, when he came to Douglas county, Ill. There he took up farming which he followed until he came to Decatur in 1884.
He leaves his widow and three daughters, Mrs. Lydia Skidmore, Mrs. Clara Baker and Mrs. Josephine Davis, all of Murdock, Ill. and three sons, Thomas Owens of Decatur, Edward L. Owens of Kansas City and Roy T. Owens of Chicago.
The body will be brought to the Monson & Wilcox undertaking parlors in Decatur. At 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon, it will be taken to the home of his son, Thomas W. Owens, 1441 East Prairie avenue, where the funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
