Jesse George Bowles, 81, Depauw, died Sunday morning, March 9, 2008, at his home.

Born Jan. 18, 1927, in Milltown, he was the son of the late George and Sallie M. Jaggers Bowles.

He was a retired employee of the International Harvester Co. in Louisville and a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Frenchtown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Angus, Cyrus, John Martin, Leon and Otis Bowles, and six sisters, Virginia Whittaker, Goldie Soliday, Mae LaHue, Elizabeth Bowles, Lela Faye Bowles and Gertrude Morgan.

Survivors include his wife, the former Theresa L. Schmitt; three daughters, Dianna Lynn Smith of Ramsey, Rita Mae Cash of Georgetown and Theresa Kathadene Derricott of New Albany; a brother, Ralph Bowles of Marengo; two sisters, Lillie Harmon of Terre Haute and Edith Johnson of Salina, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Tuesday, March 11, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, March 12, after 8 a.m. at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey.

Funeral: Wednesday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church followed by burial in the church cemetery.

Officiant: Father John Fink.
