Born Frank Preston LeMaster, he attended Bryan Station High School in Kentucky and later played collegiate football at the University of Kentucky, where he achieved All-American honors. Selected by the Philadelphia Eagles during the 4th round of the 1974 NFL Draft, he totaled 129 career regular season games. During his career, he formed a formidable linebacking core with Bill Bergey (later Jerry Robinson), who contributed to the Eagles' reaching the Super Bowl in 1981. Individually, LeMaster distinguished himself when he received Pro Bowl honors in 1981. After he retired from football, he served as a regional sales manager for an artificial turf-making company.
