Carl E. Hertsgaard, 89, who started several general stores in North Dakota and Minnesota, died Sept. 30, 1885, at Broadway Mesa Care Center. Mr. Hertsgaard, of Mesa, was born in Kindred, ND, and move to Mesa 17 years ago from Minnesota. He was a charter member of Victory Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion, Modern Woodmen of America, the Masons AF & AM, and the York Rite. He had served in the US Army for a year. Survivors include his wife, Margaret L.; son Craig M.; two sisters; grandchildren: Sandra(Robert) Gromatka, Mary (Ted) Loftness, Ruth (Glenn) Zeise, and Kristine (Richard) Kincaid; and great-grandchildren: Gretchen Gromatka, Craig Zeise, Elizabeth Zeise, Siri Loftness and Maren Loftness.
