Ruth Dorothy Nelson of Manitowoc, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, after a long life of over 99 years.

Ruth was born on September 14, 1923, in Manitowoc, daughter of Johann "Hans" and Theresa (Smazel) Weinert. She was educated in the Manitowoc Public Schools, class of 1941. During WWII she was employed by Manitowoc Ship Building from 1942-1946 as a stenographer and personal secretary to Andrew Houston. After the war she married Clarence E. "Bud" Nelson on May 10, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1993. The couple stayed in Manitowoc and had three children: Jeffrey, James, Julie. In later years Ruth worked in the office of Manitowoc Electric and Bud as traffic manager at Mirro Aluminum until retirement. They both enjoyed traveling and golf. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Manitowoc.

She is survived by her sons: Jeffrey (Dianne) Nelson, Crivitz; James Nelson, Green Bay; one daughter: Julie Nelson Shanks, Manitowoc; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Bud; one daughter-in-law: Mary Nelson; one son-in-law: Ivan "Von" Shanks; one brother and sister-in-law: John (Judy) Weinert; and one great grandchild.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 27, 2023, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 S.14th St, Manitowoc. The Rev. Heather Yerion-Keck will officiate with burial of her cremated remains to follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM.

Any memorials should be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Manitowoc.

Ruth spent her final years at The Courts of Felician Village, Manitowoc.
