(1890 - 1970)

Hans M. Weinert, 79, of 2107 Clark St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Edmund E. Olson will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Mr. Weinert was born Nov. 7, 1890, in Germany, son of the late John and Emily Windish Weinert. He came to the United States with his parents in 1892 and they settled at Manitowoc in 1894. Mr. Weinert was a veteran of World War I. He married Theresa Smazel July 16, 1918. She died Nov. 29, 1962. A veteran employe of more than 40 years at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., he retired in 1958. Mr. Weinert was a member of Boilermakers Union Local 443 and Drews-Bleser Post No. 88, American Legion.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. C.E. (Ruth) Nelson, of Manitowoc, a son, John, of Powers Lake, Wis., two brothers, Harvey and Sigfried, of Manitowoc and five grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 o'clock this Wednesday afternoon. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Germany wants Hans Weinert, son of John Weinert, Washington street, to return and serve in the army for the three years period which all German youths are required to do. Young Weinert left Germany with his parents as a boy of 5 years and he will resist any attempt to force him to return for army service.
