John Elliott died on Saturday night at 10 o'clock at his residence, No. 2575 Seventh avenue, aged 72 year and 14 days. He was born in Allegheny township, this county, March 12, 1815. In the year 1843 he settled in the Loop, where he continued to reside until his removal to Altoona some twelve years ago. He was married in 1846 to Racbel Rodkey, and the offspring of this union was seven children„ of three only are living, a son and two daughters, who are left at home with their mother to mourn their irreparable loss of one of the most affectionate of parents. The sickness wag brief and the death sudden. He took his bed one week before, but seemed in a fair way to recover when heart disease developed, and in less than twenty four hours he was relieved from his sufferings entered into his eternal rest. The deceased was one of best citizens in the truest sense of being a good man. He united with the Lutheran church of Hollidaysburg over twenty five years ago and on removal to this city transferred his membership to the Second Lutheran church, with which he was connected in humble, faithful consistency at the time of his death. Of a peculiarly amiable and affectionate disposition, he was a friend indeed and a loving neighbor, Who fully practiced the golden rule..
It can be truly said of him that he had not au enemy and was never engaged in litigation or strife of any kind, and thus he died in peace with God and man. Home was his chosen circle, where loving and beloved, his departure will leave a large vacancy. There his memory will be ever fresh and for domestic virtues his like will not soon be seen again. He was a member of the Silver Greys who are expected to attend the funeral. The services took place from the residence at 2 p. m. , Tuesday, conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. W, Criley. Interment in Oak Ridge ( Altoona Tribune Mar 31, 1887)
