My Aunt Lizzie
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elizabeth was the beautiful daughter and 2nd of 3 children born to William E."Bill" and Mollie Taylor Blankenship Burtt. Granddaughter of William and Sarah Wooldridge Blankenship. Sister of William W. Burtt and Evelyn "Dude" Allen. She was always called Lizzie by her family.
Lizzie was a gifted lady of many talents, with a great sense of humor. She played the piano and wrote songs with her sister. The two sisters recorded several songs on vinyl records. They did everything together...even getting their driver's license after the age of 30.
Lizzie was an excellent cook. Her family and extended family always looked forward to Sunday fried chicken dinners. Although we might have to help "prepare" the chicken. The children all have special memories of the "chicken preparation".
A specialty of hers was fried pies. Usually made for church bake sales, however we hoped we might have some for dessert.
Aunt Lizzie was always the caretaker of not only her children, but often her sister's children. When one of us got in trouble, she would spank us all. When we were sent out to get switches, we had better not bring back a little one.
Lizzie was a Christian and ordained minister. She instilled Christian values in her families lives.
She will be remembered as a loving (but strict)mother,grandmother,great grandmother, sister and aunt.
1. Married Floyd Luellen
2. Married Virgle Gregory
