George Larry Newberry of Green Forest, AR departed this life, Monday, October 17, at the age of 77. Larry was born February 22, 1945, at Osage, AR. He was the son of Amon and Goldie (Griffith) Newberry.

Larry was a dedicated Christian and a member of Green Forest First Assembly of God Church where he served in many capacities, ranging from Sunday School teacher, song leader, handy man, Royal Ranger leader, Deacon, and anything else he could do to help. His mission in life was to tell others about Jesus. A few days before his passing he asked his therapist if he knew Jesus. He was a member of the Gideons and served in the jail ministry as long as he was able, along with speaking in numerous churches in the area. Larry worked with Virgil and Dale VanWinkle and their crew for many years building custom homes. Larry was a jack of all trades. He remodeled his home that is about 110 years old. He could build about anything; show him a picture and he could build it.

Larry was the Maintenance Supervisor at Green Forest School District for 22 ½ years. He wanted "his school" to be the cleanest and best cared for campus around.

Larry is survived by his wife, Linda of 59 years; daughter Tammy McCance of Green Forest, also "his other" girl Regina Roe Chism of Harrison, AR, son Lindon Newberry and wife Ashley of Nixa Missouri, his dog and best buddy, Sassy, grandchildren Colton McCance of New York City, Claire and Emmy Newberry of Nixa; 2 sisters Joyce Whitley and husband Kenny of Green Forest and Louetta Roe of Harrison, sister-in-law Bonnie Newberry of Green Forest, and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Amon and Goldie Newberry, sister Wilma Culp, brother Wilson Newberry, brothers-in-law Billy Culp and Jim Roe, nephew Danny Newberry, niece Jimmie Lou Roe, great-niece Holly Sivi, and great-nephew Bryant Culp.

Celebration of Life services for Larry will be Monday, October 24 at 2:00 PM at First Assembly of God Church in Green Forest. Interment will follow at Rule Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 23 from 4-7 PM at the church. Pastors Mark Bryant and Jim Bales will officiate the services.
