Leslee Bird Henson Rasmussen

1955 - 2023

Leslee Bird Henson Rasmussen, 67, of Sandy, Utah, passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, after a courageous and graceful battle with breast and liver cancer. She was born August 4, 1955, in Provo, Utah, to James Donald "Don" and Colleen Holley Bird. She married her high school sweetheart, David Henson, on May 16, 1975, in the Manti Utah Temple. They have three children: Haley (Aaron) Warner, of Santa Clara, UT; Blake (Kass) Henson, of Mesa, AZ; and Lindsey (Tyson) Mackay, of Santa Clara, Utah. David passed away March 4, 2013. Leslee married Cory Rasmussen on January 27, 2017, and he loved, supported and cared for her every day.

Leslee grew up in Springville, Utah, and graduated from Springville High School. She was a member of the GAA (Girls Athletic Association) involved in cheerleading, tennis, volleyball, softball, and was crowned Miss Springville. She worked for Provo City and also helped run the family business, Bird Storage, for many years. Dave and Leslee retired to St. George, Utah, for a full and happy life of golfing, running, biking, friends, youth sports games and grandchildren.

Leslee is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Travel and service was her absolute passion and she changed lives in every corner of the world, from Africa to Peru to Nepal. Leslee also spent hours serving in the temple and on family history; she loved sharing that work with her children and grandchildren. She had a competitive spirit which led her to be an avid athlete, competing in many races, marathons, triathlons, and tournaments. She brought home the gold medal in pickleball four months ago at the Huntsman World Senior Games.

Leslee loved being surrounded by family, friends and neighbors. She was her grandkids' #1 fan and supported them in everything they were involved in. Sleepovers, lunch dates, fishing, and shopping trips were regular activities with Grandma. Leslee lived life to the absolute fullest and made everyone she met feel important. Her smile lit up the room and laughing was one of her favorite pastimes. Her warm, kind-hearted, and friendly nature helped her develop many lifelong relationships. She was genuinely interested in everyone she met and treated each person with love and respect.

Leslee is survived by her husband, Cory; her three children, three stepchildren, 12 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, her mother, Colleen Thatcher; stepfather, mother-in-law, four siblings and countless other in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and relatives she loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; father, Don; sister, Cindy; and father-in-law, Charles.

In honor of Leslee and the countless hours, energy and love she put into advocating for hands free laws and distracted driving awareness, please remember to put your phone away while driving and remind others to do the same. Thank you! We love you Leslee!
