Son of Jacob and Alice (Sarah) Craft Babbitt. He was a Shaker for a time then about 1840 left the sect at the same time his brother, Luther, left. He married Anne Andress after 1840. He was a large wholesale grocer in Cincinnati and was an owner of Babbitt-Good and Co. He also was head of Babbitt-Harkness and Co. in Cincinnati, OH.
