Agathat was born at what is listed in 1963 as "Chortitza, Russia", which is as follows: Chortitza (Khortitsa) Mennonite Settlement (also known as the Old Colony or Alt-Kolonie in German) was located on the left bank of the Dnieper River between the cities of Ekaterinoslav (Dnepropetrovsk) and Alexandrovsk (Zaporizhia) in the Ukraine, Russia. This was the first Mennonite settlement in Russia, established in 1789. The settlers came from the Danzig area upon invitation by Catherine II.
