Wilma (Wendy) Nell Cheatwood Helm, of Fort Worth, Texas passed away on February 11, 2023. She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother and a long-time member of Meadowbrook Methodist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral services: 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 27, 2023 at Mount Olivet Funeral Home, Fort Worth, Texas with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Wendy was born October 12, 1938, in Powderly, Texas to Benjamin and Leona Cheatwood. Wendy graduated from Paschal High School where she was an outstanding student and athlete. She was a High School and Woman's Amateur All State Basketball player, a volleyball setter, a softball pitcher who played alongside her two daughters and a member of the Meadowbrook Methodist Bowling League. She was an avid golfer and a member of Glen Garden, Rolling Hills and Woodhaven Country clubs, was a past Senior Golf Champion of Fort Worth and sat on the Fort Worth Golf Advisory Board. Wendy was a Republican Precinct Chairman for several terms, a member of the DAR Fort Worth Chapter and the Eastern Star Handley Chapter.
After graduation from high school Wendy began her career in Education in Fort Worth, Texas where she worked in the field over 35 years. She was a Kindergarten Teacher, Reading Specialist and Middle School Vice Principal. She retired in 1994.
Wendy earned six Masters of Education degrees and was close to her doctorate before she switched to the paralegal area. She received master's degrees from Texas Wesleyan College, Texas Christian University, North Texas University, Stephan F Austin University and her Doctorate Studies from University of Texas at Arlington. She also studied and received certifications internationally.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Virginia Chapman, Dorothy Hall, Mary Catherine Futch, Murrell Avery; and brother, Bobby Cheatwood.
Wendy is survived by her daughters, Kaye Helm of Arlington, Karen Turner and husband, Loyd of Lubbock; son, Mark Helm and wife, Denise of Alvarado; grandchildren, Travis Turner of Lubbock and Christen Turner and fiance, Jason Felts of Richardson; special friends, Ruth Keith and Linda Koch; numerous nieces, nephews, many dear family members and friends, who all loved her.
The family would like to thank Brookdale Oak Hollow Alzheimer's and Dementia Memory Care Staff and Caregivers and Saint Gabriel Hospice personnel for the loving care that was given to Wendy.
