Francis served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic serving in the South Pacific during World War II from Nov. 4, 1942 until Dec. 30, 1945. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 6 in Stevens Point, the Wisconsin River Country Club golf league and a member of Local 1306 at Consolidated Papers. Francis enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing, playing pool and football.
