Abraham went to America in 1752 with his parents and other members of the family. On April 22, 1752, he bought property (a tract of 100 acres) a short distance northwest of Frederick, MD and for many years was of frequent record in the area. One property, belonging to Col. Joseph Chapline, founder of the town of Sharpsburg, MD, was sold to Abraham, who later transferred it to the Trustees of the Dutch Calvinist (Reformed) Church in 1774.

Abraham of the "Sharpsburgh One Hundred" section of Washington County, took the "Oath of Fidelity and Support to the State of Maryland." He is #45 on the Sharpsburgh One Hundred. He was listed as belonging to Captain John Middaugh's company in Frederick County's Colonial Muster and Pay Rolls, Folio 172.

Abraham Lingenfelter was almost surely a very dynamic individual, as is revealed in many records of the State of Maryland. He is often involved in court proceedings. Early records and "essays" note that Abraham had lost much, financially, during the years of the American Revolution. That is probably the reason that he and his children decided to "move on" to Bedford County, PA, not too far away.

They settled near the village of Sarah Furnace (Sproul, PA today), being among the first settlers in that vicinity. The children, adults by that time, lived nearby. In his later years, as a widower, Abraham lived with his son Jacob ("Constable Jake") on a farm a short distance north of the village of Klahr.

Abraham, affectionately referred to as "Old Abe," died in Jacob's farm home in 1813-1814, aged about 83 years, and he was surely buried nearby, perhaps on Jacob's farm. Administrative records of Bedford County, PA indicate that on January 14, 1814 son Jacob was appointed administrator of Abraham's estate.

The index card I have posted on this memorial page belongs to Abraham. This is newly found information by myself through the Maryland State Archives website. In the list of index cards, not only does Abraham show up, but so did his brothers Barnett Lingenfelter (aka George Bernhardt Lingenfelter) and John Lingenfelter. Another family member appears in the index cards as well. Abraham, George Bernhardt, and John had a sister named Eva Margaretha (Lingenfelter) Adams. Her husband Valentine Adams also appears in the list of index cards. More research needs to be done with the 1767 Colonial Wars in western Maryland where their military service occurred.

**Many records show Anna Barbara BRUNNER as Abraham's wife. This has been determined to be false. Abraham did have a wife named "Anna Barbara" but as of today, her maiden surname is unknown. It is theorized that Abraham's wife's maiden name was Stine/Stein but more research needs to be done to establish the truth behind this.

***Anna Barbara BRUNNER was the wife of Abraham's brother George Bernhardt Lingenfelter. See image posted that lists Geo. B. Lingenfelter marrying a Barb. Brunner in Maryland on 10 Feb 1761.
