Emma was the daughter of Levi Webb Kinard and Mary Ann Glover, both born in Georgia. They moved to Arkansas, where Emma was born in Warren. By 1880, the family was living in LaGrue Township of Arkansas County, Arkansas. There on 30 January 1885 she married Edward Caliste Dumond. They had eight children. Edward Caliste died in 190 and is buried in the Roach Cemetery, DeWitt, Arkansas.

On 5 October 1913 Emma married widower George H Miller, whose second wife had just widowed him for the second time. When George died in 1925, Emma adopted George's stepdaughter Anna Belle Miller. The name of Anna Belle's mother is not known.

Emma's death certificate reports that she was buried on 27 September 1946 in DeWitt, Arkansas. No specific cemetery name was given, but we think that means she was buried in the DeWitt Cemetery.

Emma spent the last three years of her life bedfast after she broke her leg. The death certificate states the final cause of death as "Organic Heart" (Failure? Disease?).
