Son of Melvin S Redmond, Sr. and Muriel Newsome Redmond. He was a 1948 graduate of Jordan High School and worked for Norfolk Southern Railway for 49 years. He was a former member of the Sports Council for the City of Columbus and served as the past president of Pioneer Little League. He was instrumental in developing the Upward Basketball program. He grew up in Eastern Heights Baptist Church where he served as a church clerk and deacon, he later became a member of Hilton Terrace Baptist Church. He was preceded on death by his parents; brothers, Joe Redmond, Bill Redmond, and Jack Redmond; and great grandchild, Mackenzie Redmond. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Owens Redmond of Columbus, GA; children, Ronny Redmond (Amber), Misty Smallwood, and Robby Redmond (Jennifer) - all of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Andrew Redmond (Vanessa), Haley Davis (Trey), Tyler Redmond, Will Redmond, and Jacob Redmond; brother, George Redmond (Patsy) of Marietta, GA; and eight great grandchildren.
