Rev. Archibald Armstrong was the first son of Robert Armstrong, a farmer at Curr near Clogherney, Northern Ireland. He was born in 1794 and married Isabella Davison, daughter of the Rev. John Davison of First Cookstown Presbyterian Church, in 1825. Rev. Armstrong received his M.A. in 1816 from Glasgow University. He was licensed at Clogherney Presbyterian Church in 1818 and ordained there on Sept. 2, 1823.

During his ministry at Clogherney, a new roof was put on the church and another gallery erected, which increased the accommodation to 350 seats. He had a successful ministry until he died on Sept. 12, 1849.
