Kenneth Burton "Burt" Casper returned to his Heavenly home to join his eternal companion, Velma, on January 27, 2008 after a valiant battle against the ravages of Alzheimer's Disease, advanced age, and a fractured hip. Burt was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 8, 1911, the eighth child of 14 born to Joseph Albert and Gertrude Cook Casper. Burt and Velma got married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 6, 1933. Together they raised six children, five of whom survive him - Donna (Al) Saracino, Marilyn Robertson, Richard (Barbara Foltz), Sharon (Harvey) Frandsen, and Gary. Also survived by his son-in-law Frank Kellch, sister Ada Lenore Perkins, 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, LaRae Kellch, son-in-law Jimmie Robertson, daughter-in-law Julie Casper, and all of his siblings except Lenore. He later met (Eva) Jean Dutson, who was also widowed. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple for time on December 16, 1983. He is also survived by her and her children, Bill (Katie) Roach, Cheryl (Stephen) Woolston, Tom Roach, and their descendants. Burt was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including Bishop's Counselor in Winder Ward and Branch President's Assistant at Highland Cove Care Center. He and Jean also taught Sunday School at Highland Cove and served many years as Home Teachers there. At an early age, Burt took up the trade of carpentry, and there are still many buildings in the Salt Lake area that he built or helped build, including the Winder Stake Center. He built his own home on Highland Drive. During World War II, he commuted every day of the week to and from Clearfield to help build some of the large buildings of the Naval Freeport Center there. Burt also was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He was also a good gardener and raised most everything else that they ate. Other recreational activities that Burt participated in were snow skiing and, later, water skiing. Burt was a little past 81 years old the last time he water skied. Burt traveled extensively, both with Velma and with Jean - by car, truck and camper, boat and plane, tours, fly-drive trips - to almost every state in the Union, Canada, the Yukon and Nova Scotia - and felt blessed to be able to do so. We'd like to thank the staff and volunteers at Rocky Mountain Care and Hospice and Legacy Corps for being so kind to Burt. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winder 8th Ward, 1361 E. 4000 South. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 East, and also Thursday morning at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.holbrookmortuary.com
