John Earnest Barnett was born June 30th, 1948 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Lorene Lee (Wilson) and Martin Vernon Barnett. He passed away at his home, surrounded by family, near Elk City, Oklahoma on Friday, January 27th, 2023 at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 28 days.
John, as a young child, spent some time in Whitedeer, Texas and moved to the family farm near Sayre, Oklahoma and attended Merritt Schools. He graduated in 1966. During his senior year he met a young lady by the name of Karon Sue Maddox and they were later married on February 8th, 1967. After their marriage they made Elk City their home where John was the Produce Manager at Safeway. He later gained employment at UPS where he served as a supervisor over the Elk City, Woodward, and Guymon facilities. In the early 80's he began his career in the oil field where he began as a pumper and finished his 30 year career as a construction foreman. When John wasn't on the job, he was busy with his cattle operation and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Katherine Thompson; one brother, Mike Barnett; and one infant brother, Larry Don Barnett.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karon, of the home; 2 sons, Scott Barnett and wife, Kim, Elk City, OK, and John Randall Barnett and wife, Amy, Weatherford, OK; 5 grandchildren, Christopher Barnett, Samantha Warnke and husband, Hunter, Taylor Mendez and husband, Ty, Ella Barnett, and John Isaac Barnett; 1 great granddaughter, Jacobey Barnett; 1 sister, Marlene Barnett and a host of other relatives and friends
