Betty Sue Gilliam, 81, of Weeki Wachee, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023, at her daughter's home in Fort Mill, South Carolina after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma..

Betty was born in Pikeville, Kentucky in 1941 to the late Ollie Muncy & Cecil Muncy. Following the death of her Mother at a very young age, Betty was raised by her brother Charles and sister-in-law Georgia 'Georgie' Muncy Bailey, who was a mother figure to her. Betty was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Pikeville, where she married Dennis D. Gilliam in 1961. After studying Education at Pikeville College, she pursued her passion as a beloved teacher for 31 years at Frost Elementary and Wilde Elementary school in Warren, Michigan where she was the favorite teacher of many.

Betty brought fun and light everywhere she went with her lively personality and sense of humor, she was always the life of the party. She was incredibly kind and selfless, she was devoted to caring for her friends and family. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, shopping, going on cruises, wearing lipstick, and dancing. Most importantly, she loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her 4 children, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson, who she loved dearly. She never failed to make birthdays and holidays special for her family. We will miss her lovely disposition, beautiful smile, sense of humor, and contagious laugh.

She is preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings. Surviving her is her husband, Dennis Gilliam; her children, Jeff (Janet) Gilliam of Charlotte, Pam (Tom) Gardner of Fort Mill, Kirk Gilliam of Decatur, GA, and Chris Gilliam of Chesterfield Township, MI; grandchildren Andrew Gardner, Jordan Gardner, Jacob (Elisabeth) Gilliam, and Joseph Gilliam; great-grandson, Brady Gilliam; and her dear friend, Bill Perret of Weeki Wachee, FL.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Rock Hill who helped care for her during her final months. A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held in Florida at a later date to be announced by the family.
