David M. Himes, 86, of 207 S. 6th Ave., died suddenly at his home Thursday morning. Services are set for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. O.K. Anderson will officiate with burial at Iowa River Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Heart Fund.
Mr. Himes was born on April 13, 1898, in Marshall County, the son of John W. and Sarah I. Hutchison Himes. He was reared and educated in rural Marshall County. His first marriage was to Pearl V. Elliott on Sept. 19, 1922. She died in 1948. He was married to Ruth M. Sharp on June 24, 1949, in Waterloo. She survives.
During World War II, Mr. Himes was a supervisor at the ordinance plant at Ankeny. He was a mechanic at the Darling Garage and at International Harvester, retiring in 1963. He was a past governor of the Moose Lodge.
Besides his wife, Mr. Himes is survived by five children, Blanche (Mrs. Roger) Haynes of Legrand, Pearl (Mrs. Lawrence)Wagner, Lauren Himes, and Sharon Woodside all of Marshalltown, and Jean (Mrs. Lavel) Edens, Duarte, California; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, five brothers, and an infant daughter.
