His first job was shocking feed for the Matador "North" Ranch. Later got a job at the Sneed Ranch in Dumas where he became ranch manager. He, his wife, and Mrs. Sneed were hosts for "Dogie Days," a celebration for those living and working the ranch. This expanded and became a town celebration. He was the youngest man to be elected a county commissioner and served in that position the longest of any other person. He served in WWI. When an old hotel in Dumas, TX, became the Sneed Museum, a Lew Haile addition was included.
