MYRTLE BEACH | Lewis Wright Read, 83, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
He was born January 28, 1926 in Palmer Springs, Virginia, a son of the late William Henry and Ruth Kimball Read.
Lewis retired as vice president of sales from the Export Leaf/British American Tobacco Company. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Lewis was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed gardening. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Mary "Fran" Read of the home; his five children, Lucius Gregory Read of Danville, Va., Jackie Ludwig of Tucson, Ariz., Dannette Keel and Courtney of Phoenix, Ariz., Darryl Keel and Rosie of Myrtle Beach, and Dale Keel and wife, Liz, of Simpsonville; three sisters; Sally Liskey of Blacksburg, Va., Ruth Blackman of Lynchburg, Va., and Jane Jacob of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren; Ashely and Lindsey Ludwig; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Timmerman officiating.
