Sallie Burge Read Liskey, of Blacksburg, passed away on July 13, 2013, at her Wheatland Hills Retirement Community residence in Christiansburg. Mrs. Liskey was born on October 14, 1920, in Palmer Springs, the daughter of the late William Henry Read Sr. and Ruth Kimball Read.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Newton Liskey, three brothers, William Henry Read Jr., James Kimball Read, and Lewis Wright Read, and two sisters, Pela Read Gilmore, and Ruth Read Blackman.

Sallie attended Farmville State Teachers College, now Longwood University. After moving to Blacksburg, she was a longtime member of the Blacksburg United Methodist Church. She became an active member of the Junior Women's Club and Floralia Garden Club for many years. Sallie was an avid golfer and was a member of the Women's Blue Ridge Golf Association and the Blacksburg Country Club Women's Golf Association. She enjoyed playing bridge and remained active in bridge club as long as she was able.
Sallie was a genuine southern lady who loved to entertain. For her, being a wife, mother, homemaker and gracious hostess was a high calling. Sallie was never happier than when she was surrounded by friends and neighbors, especially at holiday time, with family all around. A devoted wife, proud mother and grandmother, she took keen delight in the accomplishments of her family. Her delightful sense of humor, gracious and sweet spirit will be sorely missed by her loving family, many friends, and all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her son, Charles Kimball Liskey and daughter-in-law, Karen Liskey, of Blacksburg; her daughter, Sallie Read Liskey Parker, of DeLand, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Ashley Page Parker Rhodes, Read Justin Parker, Jenna Kay Liskey, and Holly Ann Liskey. Sallie is also survived by one sister, Jane Read Jacob and brother-in-law, Lucius S. Jacob; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the care given at Wheatland hills Retirement Community and the staff of the Carilion Hospice.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013, at Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg with the Rev. Chris McLain officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
