If heaven has a special room for knick-knacks, it gained quite a new collection when it gathered the beautiful soul of Sharon Rasmussen Coleman.
Sharon, 74, passed away in Brigham City, Utah, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, after a short hospital stay due to pneumonia. This bout with pneumonia was one in a long list of battles she bravely faced in her yearslong fight against cancer. A battle she faced like most everything in her life, with a smile on her face.
Sharon was born January 17, 1948, in Brigham City, Utah, to DeVern James Rasmussen and Cora Lee Rasmussen. She spent her early years enjoying life with her two older brothers, Gordon and Brent, and her beloved little sister, and best friend, Zan. She developed a love for adventure, cooking, and music at a young age. She and her sister took many tap and ballroom dance classes. Sharon always loved singing, joining and traveling with many school choirs over the years. Later in life, singing in church choirs and playing the piano for church meetings became some of her favorite activities.
Sharon graduated from Box Elder High School, and then from beauty school in Escondido, California. Later in life, Sharon returned to school and received her associate degree from Bridgerland Technical College in Brigham City.
Sharon married Ralph Coleman on December 15, 1972, in the Ogden Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, they welcomed eight children: Chip (Karen) Coleman, Jared (Traci) Coleman, Tad (Melissa) Coleman, Tia (Jason) Paxton, Tina (Adam) Paxton, Beth (Chester) Roper, Kim (Nate) Anderson, and Andrew (Kathy) Coleman. Sharon loved her children dearly. Some of her last words were to say how much each of them blessed her life.
Sharon and Ralph later divorced. Sharon worked desperately hard to provide for her children. She took on physically demanding jobs, often working night and day to ensure she could care for her children. No amount of work was too much, no job too difficult, when her goal was loving her kids.
Sharon was a collector. She loved her knick-knacks, hats, scarves, purses, and wallets. If she didn't have what you were looking for in one of her purses, she certainly had it in another! And, as much as she collected things, she collected friends even more. She was quick with a smile, silly joke, or welcoming warm hand. Many of her friends were earned while receiving loving haircuts from Sharon. If you were in her salon chair, you were her friend. Now and forever.
She also collected many friends through her numerous church callings. Sharon was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sharon's faith was strong, and it helped guide her through many obstacles in life.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister. She is survived by her three siblings, her eight children, and 17 grandchildren.
As Sharon requested, she will be remembered at a Celebration of Life Open House. Please join us to honor and celebrate Sharon. Friends are welcome at the Brigham Academy Center, 58 N. Main Street, Brigham City, Utah.
