Mr. Thomas William Akridge, age 80, of Rome Georgia passed away on December 27, 2022. He was born in Rome, GA on December 15, 1942. He was the son of the late Jack Akridge and Beatrice Akridge. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Akridge, brother John Akridge Jr., and his younger brother Richard Akridge.

Tom was a graduate of Darlington High School in 1960. Tom also attended Georgia Tech where he graduated with an Aerospace Engineering degree in 1966. He started his career with McDonnell Douglas where he became involved in the Apollo missions which put the first men on the moon. He was also recognized by NASA for his work at the Kennedy Space Center and was honored for his special contribution in preparing the space shuttle for the launch on its first operational mission for the nations new space transportation system. He spent the balance of his career working for IBM as a computer analyst/programmer. Tom enjoyed playing sports, loved his science fiction novels, and helping others throughout his life.

He is survived by his sister, Sara Sprague, nieces & nephews, Jason, Allison, Dylan, Caylee, Jean, Richard, & John.

The family will hold a graveside service at the Kennebrew Cemetery at 12:00 on Tuesday, January 3, 2022.
