I can't remember much about my Oma as we only drove down from Fort Worth to Fannin once a year. I do remember the smell of the lovely coffeecake she made for us and the good butter on the table.
There were chickens in the yard and a cow named Lena.
There was an outhouse.
I think she had a rather hard life.
I remember my mother saying that when she was young that once in a while they had bacon but so little that the kids usually got only bacon grease with their biscuits.
