Catherine West-Pulkrabek, 96, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Thompson, ND, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2022, in Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, ND.

Catherine Mary Adam was born on February 20, 1926, at home on the farm near Reynolds, ND, the daughter of Rudolph and Katherine (Ackerman) Adam. She was the youngest of 8 children with her nearest sibling, Magdalene Weber, nine years older.

She graduated in 1944 from Cathedral High School, Crookston, MN. She lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Otto Keller, during that time. In 1946, she graduated from Aaker's Business College and began her first job as a secretary at International Harvester.

Catherine married Alvin West on November 12, 1946, in St. Jude's Catholic Church in Thompson. They met at the Town Hall in Reynolds, where "Al" asked her to dance, and the rest is history. They resided on the West family farmstead in Thompson where they farmed and raised five children.

Catherine was known for her love for her family, dancing, playing piano and music. While living on the farm, she taught her children how to garden, sew, bake and cook. She enjoyed crocheting and bird watching. She lived the values of faith, family and love. She was an honest, hardworking country gal and businesswoman. She held clerical positions at Grand Forks Credit and Collection Bureau, Belmont Reality, Edward Jones, Kelly Services, and a greeter at the Alerus Center.

Volunteering was second nature to Catherine. She believed, "It's a two-fold job. What you give you get back. It's making a difference in my life, so I'm making a difference in other people's lives." Catherine was an active member at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Thompson. She was a member of the Association of Sisters of the Presentation, Fargo, ND. She greeted others with a smile and open arms at Empire Arts Center, UND Museum of Arts and East Grand Forks Senior Center. Her love for the Lord was shared in adoration at St. Anne's Guest Home, serving the sick at Altru Hospital Chaplaincy, and praying the rosary with residents at the Northwood Nursing Home.

On December 22, 2012, she married Dale Pulkrabek and they resided in Grand Forks, ND. They met at the EGF American Legion, where Dale asked her to dance, and the rest is history. They traveled several winters to Mesa, AZ.

She is survived by her children, The Rev. Mr. Jim (Rita) West, Thompson, ND, Dianne (Richard) Keller, Missoula, MT, John (Naomi) West, Fargo, ND, Becky (Ben) Trapnell, Grand Forks, ND, Kim (David) Klinger, Cass Lake, MN; 20 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
