83 years of age. Son of Wiley and Elizabeth Davis Pickett. Husband of Martha W. Nicholson Pickett. Born in Randolph county, the youngest of six children, never knowing his father who was killed in the Civil War. He was a "country" doctor in the Bellmont section of Alamance county for over 50 years, and even though he had "quit" several times, his patients sometimes ignored it and called on him anyway. Starting out using a horse and buggy, he wore out four buggies and many horses before getting a Model T with flapping curtains and holes in the roof. He had a reputation for never refusing a call regardless of the time---day or night, or condition of the weather. When he found the time, one of his pastimes was raising poultry at his farm of several hundred acres that was situated on the road between Bellmont and Alamance.
