"Pioneer Citizen Passes Away Friday
George F. Tomlinson, Sr, 80, died at his home in Tulia last Friday morning following an illness of several weeks, prior to which his health had gradually failed for several months.
Uncle George as his was familiarly called by his many friends has been a familiar person in Tulia for many years, coming here in 1890 from near Dermett/Dorrsett, Texas.
He was born near Atlanta, Georgia, June 29, 1852. At the age of 9 he came with his father's family to Texas and lived near Burnett until 1890.
He was married to Miss Sarah Margaret Dunn in Bell county, October 12, 1884. To this union were born four children, George, Sam, Ina (Mrs. Hastings of Hereford), and Jim.
Those surviving besides those mentioned are the widow Mrs. George Tomlinson, and two daughters of a former marriage Mrs. Maggie Crain, Altus, Oklahoma and Mrs. Beulah Rousser of Kress, Texas. He had had sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
G. F. Tomlinson was a member of Masonic Lodge of Tulia and was quite active in its work until recently. He was converted when he was a young man and joined the Baptist Church and was an active member of that church until his hearing became impaired some two or three years ago, preventing him from enjoying the worship services.
Funeral services were conducted from the Baptist church last Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock by the pastor, Rev. A. C. Huff assisted by Rev. J. A. Lindley and Rev. J. H. Boles?, pastor of the Presbyterian church.
The large concourse of friends attending his last rites attested to his popularity and standing in the community.
Interment was in the local cemetery under the direction of the Ramsey Undertaking company.
