Clifford E. Stewart


Clifford E. Stewart of Emporia died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor. He was 88.


Mr. Stewart owned and operated the Emporia Firestone Store until his retirement.Upon graduation from high school at age 16, he attended and graduated from the Kansas City College of Commerce before serving in the87th Quartermaster Company, 87th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. He received an honorable discharge with medals and commendations.


The son of Clifford Emmett and Garnetta Ewing Stewart, he ws born Nov. 26, 1923, in Beaman, Mo.


He married Gloria Ritteroff on Oct. 5, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo.


He was a member of St. 'Episcopal Church, where he served as financial advisor and member of the church's vestry.


He is survived by his wife; son, Clifford E. "Skip' Stewart of Elmhurst, Ill., daughter Marcia Stewart Law of Emporia; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine and Norma.


A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. The family will meet friends following the service.


Instead of flowers, the family has established a memorial at Saint Andrew's Church. Memorial contributions may also be made to Hand In Hand Hospice, Emporia, Ks.
