He was married to Mary Matilda Godown in Oct. 22, 1867 in Van Burien Co., Iowa. They were parents to Frank J. Clapp, Minnie E. Clapp and George Mark Clapp.
Uriah's parents were George Clapp and Eliza Williams.

Uriah served in the Civil War with Indiana's Company K, 12th Cavalry Regiment. He enlisted as a Private on 12 Jan 1864 and was mustered out on 16 Jun 1865.

After the war he was a member of GAR Post 316 in Greensburg Kansas.
