William A. Lambert, Sr., 97, passed away on November 03, 2022.

Born September 12, 1925, he was the son of Eliza Jane Johnson Lambert and Thomas Shaw Lambert.

William and his brothers were orphaned at a very young age, but were eventually raised by their grandmother: Annie Glasco.

He attended Coatesville Area School District.

William was a U.S. Army Combat Paratrooper during World War II. He was an M-1 Marksman and Armourer and received the Army Occupation Medal. His European tour took him to France, Germany, and Belgium from 1943 to 1946.

On April 11, 1947, he married Nannie Adele Smith and together shared sixty-nine years of marriage until her death in June, 2016.

William was employed at Lukens Steel Company for twenty years. During those years, he was a Fabricator in the Weld Department. For a time, he was employed at the Veterans Administration of Coatesville. He was the Owner and Operator of Lambert & Sons refuse business from April 1957 to 1969 where they serviced all of Valley Township and West Caln Township. After retiring from Lukens, he established R & L Fabricators, Incorporated which operated from 1969 to the late 1980's. He held positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Chief Financial Officer from 1969 to 1975. They specialized in welded fabrications, manufacturing, maintenance, and repair with sheet metal, rolled, structural, and heavy plate steel.

He was a member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church.

William was a Golden Heritage Life Member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) since 1978. He held positions of President of the Coatesville Branch of the NAACP, State Treasurer of the Pennsylvania NAACP, and Treasurer of the local branch of the NAACP for several years. He received the Martin Luther King Community Service Award while serving as Coatesville NAACP President. Also, he was awarded an Outstanding Service Award while serving as Treasurer. In addition, the Coatesville NAACP Youth Council awarded him with the Pathfinder Award.

He was a member of the Eastern Star Eureka Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Star (O. E. S.) where he held the position of Worthy Patron, Past Patron, and District (3rd) Lecturer of the Deborah Grand Chapter #12 O. E. S., and Worthy Patron of Peace Chapter #98. A Community Service Award was also presented to him by Deborah Grand Chapter #12 O. E. S. as well as a Dedicated Service Award for serving as 3rd District Lecturer.

William was a 32° Mason of Lily of the Valley Lodge #59 Free and Accepted Masons (F. & A. M.) Prince Hall Affiliate (P. H. A.) - Charles E. Gordon Consistory and fifty year member where he held Past Master and several other positions. He received a Man of the Year from the Lily of the Valley Lodge #59 F. & A. M. P. H. A. In addition, William was a member of Holy Royal Arch Chapter #18 of Mount Lebanon.

He was a member of Delaware Chapter Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Treasurer of the John W. Benn Scholarship Fund, and Sober Retreat Lodge - United Order of Odd Fellows.

William received the following awards, certificates of appreciation, commendations, and plaques:

As President of the Valley Township Civil Council in the 1950's, they awarded him with an Outstanding Service plaque for his service as a Republican Committeeman. He received a Commendation for support of the Lincoln University Education Department. A Certificate of Appreciation was awarded by the Department of Veteran Affairs for his Community Service as Coatesville Branch NAACP President. A Meritorious Service Award from the Coatesville Branch of the NAACP. As Valley Township Supervisor, an award was given to him in Recognition of his untiring service to the Valley Township Police Department. He was the recipient of TheTrailblazer Award - presented by Governor Richard Thornburgh and Shirley Dennis Secretary of the Department of Community Affairs for his service to Valley Township. Recipient of the Legion of Honor-Chapel of Four Chaplains. 1978 Man of the Year from African Methodist Episcopal Church. A Pillar of the Community Award from the Women's League of Minority Education. A Trailblazer Award from the Department of Community Affairs for his service to Valley Township. An Award of Community Involvement by the South East Chester County National Business and Professional Women. As a member of St. Paul AME, he received a Certificate of Appreciation for his efforts resulting in the success of St. Paul AME's addition to the National Registry of Historic Places.

He was an avid bowler having won a Bowling League championship award 1996 - 1997 by the Bowling Palace.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-nine years: Nannie; his sons; William A. Lambert, Jr., Amos Stanley Lambert, Joel A. Lambert, Peter A. Lambert, and Kevin A. Lambert; and, his brothers: Douglas J. Lambert, Sr., Wilson T. Lambert, Amos S. Lambert, and Joseph Mason.

He is survived by his daughters: Letitia A. Adair of Harrisburg, Rae A. (Richard) Ferguson of Coatesville, Shauna A. (Darryl) McMillan of Coatesville; his son: Ibrahim Mujahid (Lorraine) Lambert of Atlanta, Georgia; his thirteen grandchildren; his fifteen great-grandchildren; his six great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law: Rose Smith Thomas; his brother-in-law: Christopher Smith; his nieces and nephews; his cousins; and, his friends.

Inurnment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Monday, December 12, 2022 at 12:30 PM.
