Nannie Adele (Smith) Lambert, 87, of Coatesville passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016.

Born on March 18, 1929 in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Amelia Letitia (Winters) Smith and Carl Smith.

Nannie attended Scott High School and graduated in 1947.

She married William A. Lambert in 1947.

From March 1987 until her retirement in June 2012, Nannie worked full-time for the Chester County Intermediate Unit as a Para-Educator in several school districts, including the Coatesville Area School District.

Since childhood, she was an active member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Coatesville and played an integral role in getting the church on the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years, she served as Secretary of the church, Mother of the church, taught Sunday school, served on the Stewardess and Usher Boards, and sang in the Choir.

Nannie volunteered for the American Cancer Society for many years driving patients to and from appointments.

She was a member of Eureka Chapter #12 of the Order of the Eastern Star Prince Hall Affiliated where she served in several stations in her local chapter including Worthy Matron. In Deborah Grand Chapter, she served as District Deputy, District Lecturer, and Dean of the School of Instruction. She was also a Life Member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Nannie loved to bowl and participated in several bowling leagues over many years.

She was an avid seamstress - making clothes for herself, her children, and especially her grandchildren, as well as cloth dolls, quilts, and pillows. She also loved to crochet and complete woodworking projects. Nearly every weekend, she and her daughters would display their work at local craft shows.

In addition to her parents, Nannie was preceded in death by her sons: William A. Lambert, Jr., Amos Stanley Lambert, and Kevin A. Lambert.

She is survived by her husband of over sixty-nine years: William A. Lambert, Sr.; her daughters: Letitia A. Adair of Harrisburg, Rae A. (Richard) Ferguson of Coatesville, Shauna A. (Darryl) McMillan of Coatesville; her sons: Joel A. Lambert, Sr. of Coatesville, Peter A. (Souad) Lambert of Coatesville, and Ibrahim Mujahid (Lorraine) Lambert of Atlanta, Georgia; her thirteen grandchildren; her ten great-grandchildren; her two great-great-grandchildren; her sister: Rose Smith Thomas of Atlanta, Georgia; her brothers: (Carl) Robert Smith of Cleveland, Ohio and Christopher Smith of Chambersburg; her nieces and nephews; her cousins; her friends; her former students; and, her home care nurse: Mary Ellen Smith.
