Farmer Killed

A Washington township amateur photographer was killed outright at 3:26 pm Sunday when the 1937 automobile he was driving struck a large shade tree on Edward Fifield farm at a "Y" intersection off the north end of County Road 45----.
Killed was Warren Blake, 6-, RFD 1. A bachelor, Blake was reportedly making the rounds of neighbors showing off pictures he had taken of the queen contest at the Porter county Fair.
Deputy Sheriff Harry B. Ingleson, investigating officer, said Blake's automobile was demolished and that he died of a fractured skull, broken neck and crushed chest.
"The cause of the accident is unknown," Ingleson remarked. "Blake was known as a rather slow and careful driver," the deputy said.
In timing Blake's movements before the crash, Deputy Ingleson said Blake had visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lacy, where he showed the pictures of their daughter, Sharon, who was in the queen contest.
Mrs. Lacy said she gave Blake several cans of sweet ---- before he left her home. Blake reportedly was on his way to the Herbert ---- home in Jackson Township to show pictures of the queen, their daughter, Jamie.
A prominent Washington township farmer, who resided on the Blake homestead, he was a member of the Washington township advisory board from 1944 until -----.
Born Sept. 20, 1903, in Porter county, he was the son of Harry and Ethel (Collins) Blake.
Surviving are two brothers, William J. and James -, both of RFD 1; one sister, Mrs. Marjorie Green, Panorama City, Fla.; two nephews and one niece.
Services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the Bartholomew Funeral home with the Rev. Thomas E. Al----, First Christian church, officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
