James H. Blake, age 87, of Valparaiso, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at his home. He was born September 2, 1919 in Washington Township and lived his entire life on the family farm. Jim graduated from Washington Township High School in 1936 and was a farmer with a strong attachment to the land and a special devotion to his family. He also enjoyed bowling, bike riding, painting and carpentry. On December 3, 1939 in Valparaiso he married Thelma Bull, who preceded him in death May 8, 2001. Survivors include one son Brian N. (Lu Krieger) Blake of Valparaiso; daughter-in-law Sharon Blake of Valparaiso; three grandchildren: Larry J. Blake, Heather A. (Jimmy) Trosper and Thomas R. Blake; three great-grandchildren: Katie Blake, Jane K. Trosper and Emma M. Trosper. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son Robert J. Blake; two brothers Harold and William Blake; and one sister Marjorie Green. Visitation will take place on Friday from 2-8 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso, followed by cremation at Angelcrest Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to VNA Hospice.
