Mrs Johnson was born in slavery Dec 25 1842 in South Grove KY near Bowling Green. During the Civil War, at the time she was 21 years of age, she served as a foreman on a plantation which produced tobacco, hemp, corn and wheat. She was in charge of the women on the plantation.
Mrs Johnson's husband died in 1913 and since 1919 she has resided with her daughter. She has been invalided since March 1945 when she suffered a stroke.
Other survivors include two granddaughters, one great granddaughter and two great great grandsons. Funeral services will be held at the High Street Baptist Tabernacle Wednesday at 2PM. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery.
