Obituary - Irene Durrant Mendenhall Andersen, 91, died Thursday, May 7, 1992, at her home in Tremonton of causes incident to age.
She was born May 27, 1900 in Franklin, Idaho, a daughter of Lorin Mathew and Agnes Elvira Durrant Mendenhall. She married Hans Jacob Andersen, April 27, 1927, in the Logan LDS Temple. He died December 28, 1962.
Mrs. Andersen had lived in Franklin, Idaho, Dayton, Idaho, Blue Creek, and Tremonton.
She was instrumental in establishing the first school lunch program in Box Elder County and worked for many years at McKinley School in Tremonton. Being gifted with her hands, she made and sold many hand-made items and woven rugs.
Irene was a member of the Tremonton 2nd LDS Ward where she had served as a Nursery, Relief Society Work Director and had supervised many ward dinners. She was noted for her ability to prepare food for large groups.
Surviving are 3 sons and their wives, Leon H. and Erma Andersen, East Garland; L. Dean and Connie Andersen, Garland; Darrell M. and Ellen Andersen, Logan; 4 daughters and their husbands, Eva M. Allred, Garland; Elaine and Blain Madsen, Tremonton; Betty Jean and Donald R. Reese, Pocatello, Idaho; Marilyn and Robert Lightfoot, Malta, Idaho; 27 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Russell E. (LaVern) Mendenhall, Clearfield; William (Dorothy) Durrant, Mendenhall, Burley, Idaho; a sister, Veda D. Didericksen, Preston, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Mildred Mendenhall, Ogden.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, DeVon G. Allred, 2 brothers, Kenneth Mendenhall, Thomas Mendenhall, and a sister, Ida Breitenbeker Rice.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 12. Burial in Tremonton Riverview Cemetery.
