In 1955 he was in an automobile accident in which he broke his pelvis. Shortly after his recovery he returned to work at the Colwell Station, North of Mt. View, Oklahoma. And on Dec 18th, 1956, while working in the garage at Colwell's, he knocked over a can of gasoline which ran under a stove and caught fire. His legs were severely burned in the accident.

In about 1957 Willie started working at the APCO Station on the corner of Birch Street and Hi-way 58, in Carnegie, Okla.
In about 1963 he moved to a new location across the street from the APCO, (Baker's Fina Station) in which he owned and operated for 38 years.
